Duration: 11 Days
The Tengboche trek is a moderate trek which allows you to savour the fantastic scenery of this area as well as serving as an introduction to the customs and culture of the local people. The Everest Tengboche trek is ideally suited to trekkers who have never been to this region before or who are on a tight time schedule.
The Khumbu region, famous for its stunning views of snow-peaked mountains, is home to Mt. Everest, a dream for many trekkers all over the world. While some enjoy the thrill of the adventure, others enjoy the scenary, nature, and diversity of the region. Tengboche trekking is a truly heavenly experience for those trekkers that want to get the feel of this region or enjoy the thrills of a Buddhist trek.
Perched on a ridge at 3,860 meters altitude, the Tengboche Monastery is the largest monastery in the Khumbu Region and one of the highest monasteries in the world. Tengboche is within the Sagarmatha National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku drape its background, giving it a breathtaking view. People are drawn to this place because of its natural and spiritual beauty.
The best time to visit the Tengboche Monastery is during the Mani Rimdu festival. It’s a yearly celebration taking place between the middle of October and November. Held right at the courtyard of the Tengboche Monastery, the festival is the most important event that gathers everyone in the local Sherpa community, pilgrims and trekkers alike. It is a festival full of sacred rites, music, dance and reenactments of legends, accentuated with vibrant and colourful masks and costumes.
The trip begins at Kathmandu, where you can visit some of the stunning Unesco Heritage sites or head on to the valley for its scenic views. From Kathmandu, we will fly on to Lukla and will go through the bustling market village of Namche Bazar, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu. The rich Sherpa culture and their friendly nature are an added extra bonus on this awe-inspiring trip. We will them reach Tengboche.
The Tengboche trek offers a great opportunity for trekkers to delve deeper into understanding the Sherpa’s culture, tradition and values. Tengboche provides you with the magnificent view of the mountain peaks without trekking at greater altitudes.
We at Himalayan Treks allow full customisation for our customers, which is why we also have add-ons and trip extensions which can be perused by interested trekkers. Some popular trip extensions availed by our clients include a day or more exploring the historic sites of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur or why not pay a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site Chitwan National Park. Likewise, it's also possible to extend your trek to link it with other treks in the same Everest area, for instance the Everest Base Camp trek. However, if you are looking for a different experience altogether, we can recommend the Annapurna Circuit trek or the Manaslu Circuit trek.
